Andrew Adonis likes clarity. He speaks deliberately, ensuring his phrases are clear and well-constructed, as befits a former journalist and politician. The Labour peer, a former education minister and transport secretary, is renowned for being cerebral, and retains something of a ‘policy wonk’ air many years after he stopped being a special adviser to Tony Blair.
